Facebook Limitations of Single Name

After having tried & failed to open an account with Facebook for sometime now, I have completely given up on it. Not that I am a SNS freak or maniac (no offence), but since my friends’ profiles sat on the Site; & with the reviews everywhere around, the curiosity got the better of me.

After having interacted with the Facebook Team on email, I received a mail from Zoe, User Operations Analyst, Facebook on 1st October, 2009 saying this:

Hi,
Facebook does not allow people to sign up with certain names that may be fake or associated with fake accounts. While we realize this verification method may prevent some people with legitimate names from initially registering, we feel this policy is currently the best method to prevent against malicious and fake accounts on the site.
We can help you sign up for an account, but we will need additional information. Please reply to this email with a scanned image or digital picture of a government-issued photo ID (e.g., driver’s license) in order to confirm the accuracy of your name. Also, make sure you black out any personal information that is not needed to verify your identity (e.g., social security number). Keep in mind that we will permanently delete your ID from our servers once your name has been verified.
We apologize for the inconvenience, but you will be unable to sign up until you provide us with a scanned image of a government-issued ID. Please include all of our previous correspondence in your response so that we can refer to your original inquiry.

Thanks in advance for understanding this security policy,

I had sent the Xerox of my PAN Card & my Bank Photo Card on 7th December, 2009. I haven’t received any reply from them.  As was suggested, I had also included the Original Mail. Infact, I bought the scanner for the same purpose, alas!!

I tried yet one more time this year again to open up an account. It wont let me. Instead had to log a complain as earlier  & sent a mail on 30th March, 2010, in response to their Mail

Hi,

Please reply to this email to verify that you are the owner of the account that you referenced in your Facebook support inquiry. This security step must be completed before Facebook can respond to your inquiry. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Please avoid creating an account with a different name while we are processing your request.

Thanks,

The Facebook Team

My Reply

I confirm, & notify that I have been trying to create one with for a very long time now.. last time u asked for my ID & I sent u my ATM photo card & PAN Card, but dint hear thereafter.

Is going by single name criminal that Facebook has outcasted me??

Regards

Olivia

As I post this Blog here, I have sent them yet another mail attaching my

  • 1st set of conversation asking for Documents’ Xerox,
  • 2nd mail which has an attachment of my Documents
  • And also, the mail that was sent on 30th March, 2010.

Dear Facebook Team,

  • As was suggested by you, I have sent you my Documentation to prove that I go by Single Name. It seems that both My Single Name & Your Acceptance of the Same is Criminal & hence chosen to not even respond to it.
  • May I please understand that how any one with usage of 2 names as in 1st & 2nd/last Name would become a genuine or “not fake”?
  • How so “with changed times” is your Policy & Practice?
  • Would appreciate some reply this time.

Olivia

Let me wait & see if I receive some reply this time, till I post the 2nd part of this Post.

Oh! And Facebook itself goes by Single Name- It ought to be “Face Book”

An Update- 5th May, 2010: I have not received any reply since then even on the email that was sent on 29/04/2010. Well, I would have been damned if they had responded to.

Wish Facebook a Very GOOD LUCK.. <= (click) => Olivia on Facebook

  2. Give up and become Olivia Olivia…

    • Thanks, but no- Thanks 🙂
… But even that doesn’t work and I go by Single Name.. I did create an account with my WordPress User Name, which they have gracefully corrected to my REAL name as OLIVIA
Link to the next post is also given in this post whereby I have included their act of correcting my name.
