LIC needs an Insurance themselves

LIC stands for Life Insurance Corporation of India

I could have spent time writing my biography. Instead, I am typing this post out. I am a LIC policy holder for the past 3 years. It so happened that the agent who had registered me, Anwar- DO-1, 9810609743, some 3 years back; didn’t pay the commission that was supposed to come to me. Nevermind.

I had approached him several times to update my address. He had kept insisting that the amount that comes as an interest after few years, would automatically go to my Bank Account. All he would talk about is I should settle down- asap. The last time I had talked to him some 2 years back and shut him off for good, he was more keen on showing me the pictures of prospective grooms. Since he was introduced through a common link, I couldn’t scream on him. Not that any was left of that.

Well, as it was ordained to happen; the cheque had gone back from my earlier residential address. Not a big deal- is it? He could always collect it and leave that at that common link’s place or me to re-collect.

Here’s the big deal.

I had tried to register with the LIC website today. The site takes practically ages to open up.

I wanted to change my address. Note how “Change Address” is above the Profile Information!!

Note how the "address change" box is above "update profile"

Clicking on “Address Change”, gives me a huge message saying this:

Address Change allows you to change the addresses of your policies. No detail is being seen because,

1) you might not have enrolled any policies.

2) the enrolled policies are yet to be VALIDATED or there is mismatch in Policy Date of Birth with Profile Date of Birth.

If you have not submitted the enrollment form to a branch office for verification, please do so.

  • REALLY..??

Don’t miss out on my Gender Information as uploaded on the website

My name, address and gender was already filled in. I am a woman. I had gladly started updating my profile. I had the option to over- ride my address there too..!!

No Single Names Please

There- again I am stuck up. The website doesn’t allow anyone to register with Single Name.. This is after I am a Policy Holder (as the jargon goes). If I am a Policy Holder with my Single Name itself; then how come, I am restricted to open up an account with the same name? For “who-ever’s” sake, I have submitted supporting documents reflecting my Single name.

User ID and Address have been "whitened". Note my Gender and an * at the Last Name field

LIC Offices are unreachable

I contacted all the numbers given on their website for Delhi. They either “don’t exist” or are “temporarily out of Service”.

Mumbai numbers are even better

  • 022-26766221.
  • After making you punch all your details and hold for 5 minutes on music..
  • Holding..
  • The IVR says that the information against my Policy Numbers isn’t available. Press 1 for any other a/c; 2 for no more account..
  • 2..
  • Thank You for calling (says the IVR and you are hung up)
  • @#$#^%#@#$$%

No help from anywhere

I call up Just Dial- 22222222; they give me a number of Zonal Office- 011-028844159. I call up the numbers provided. The man who answered the call was too hesitant to speak up. He was of no help; neither could he provide any other number.

I redial 8 times 2. 2 cell- numbers were provided-

  • 9210209904- No Response to Bell
  • 9811135393- Rajinder- Marketing Manager. He “suggested” that I call Just Dial and take Mumbai numbers. He didn’t have any. I had asked him if he knew how shameless he was- BLANK. I disconnected on him.

I have failed to talk to the LIC officers whereby they guarantee Insurances.. Just who would insure them against their malfunctions?

Anyone listening..?

Blessed state of the PV Residents

Palam Vihar, Gurgaon

Electricity Department

To call and ask for the untimely power-cuts that is so usual, call- up at:

  • +91 7827288906 till 9
  • SatNarayan- Supervisor- +91 95609 94105
  • Head/Incharge- Mr. Saxena- +91 9810370448

All through summers, Palam Vihar have suffered of Random Power Cuts. Alibis:

  • From the Main Powerhouse/sub-station
  • (Immediately there- after), only Palam Vihar
  • (and yet again), for this particular block
  • No rains..!! (So, what about it?)

It has been raining for a week now, the transformer oil and cables Would not be getting heated up anymore. Now what??

  • Yesterday night, the lights went out at 9.30pm. For close to 2 hours, all of them pre-posed that due to rains they were unable to rectify the fault.
  • Wherein, the Fore-men, who was supposed to switch- on the lights from the Power- house had been blissfully sleeping.
  • Wonder of wonders– The Foremen woke up; as soon as the Electricity guys were asked to give their statement to the Police who was to reach them in next couple of minutes.
  • This was at 1.30am that I had called up the Police and requested their interference and assistance.
  • Till so long, they had offered (and had succeeded too as well), all the cock and bull stories about everything happening, excepting the Electricity and that “we residents” were to be complacent  without the lights for the night.
  • Already, for 4 hours in the daytime, they had made the Residents suffer on account of “storms have damaged the cables” pretext.
  • The Electricity connection was also extended to Dharam Colony– an un-authorized dwelling, against us. They claim that the same had been removed yesterday. Out of the 50% times that the Electricity connection was affected, it was because of some fault at this Colony. Though Satnarayan had wanted to know if “I had hated the Poor”.
  • Even more surprising was the fact that not many residents were following it up. That’s an usual picture. No one moves their booty to understand why there are so many cuts and for random hours and random timings.

Only a couple of months back, when the same Electricity Deptt and Linemen have been “lying” about the “Cuts” being from sub- station; it was found out:

  • That they were fixing a Generator for the vice- president Mr. Wahi.
  • The power- cuts had lasted for 4 hours in the afternoon, till late evening for 4 consecutive days, besides the cuts at other times.
  • The residents were kept deprived of Electricity connection for more than 8 hours for those many days.
  • The cat would have snoozed peacefully inside the baggage if the 2 workmen had not axed through live 66 KVA wires and suffered of 60% burns..!!
  • Just an update- the matter that was then lodged in the PS by the residents collectively; has now been suppressed (samajh gaye..??/I hope you figured out how..!!)

I so wish if all the Residents join their heads and hands and not pay the Maintenance Charge that itself is a “triple” the  amount that they are enjoying. In a few blocks, where there are 2 storeyed building on the ground floor, all the residents through out the building are paying maintenance charge as per their area square feet.

  • Please use your mind: the building stands on (for eg.) 365sq feet area. Why are all the 3 floors paying a maintenance for that square feet area, instead of splitting the area?
  • Once the Ground floor is allotted, no one attends to the overgrown weeds and grasses. Snakes are amongst the common creatures here.
  • If you call them up to alert; they would mock at you asking you to “hush” that away. i.e., if at all they answer your call at the Ansal’s Office.

The apathy continues..

Number Porting v/s Call Tapping

Read below an article published in Hindustan Times- 14th may, 2010. The entire article has been produced for the Reader’s Benefit. The MNP that was scheduled to be launched by April this year has again been delayed 😦

Soon, govt can tap your phone legally

PROPOSAL- Legal cover to be given to passive interception

(source- HT- 14th may, 2010)

The next time you pick up your mobile phone, your friend might not be the only one listening you speak.

The government is giving legal cover to the new passive interception technology that enables intelligence agencies to eavesdrop into all mobile communications within a 2-km radius of the equipment.

The government will move Parliament during the monsoon session to ban the private sector from operating passive interception machines and introduce safeguards in their use by intelligence agencies, a government official said on Thursday.  But before it introduces safeguards, it will have to legalise their use first.

The Telegraph Act permits targeted phone tapping, only after security agencies convince the home secretary concerned of the need to tap a particular number. A panel headed by the cabinet secretary then reviews the home secretary’s approvals.

“Giving legal cover to passive interception would short-circuit this procedure,” said Pavan Duggal, an expert in technology-related law.

“There is a need to spell out the minimum limits of privacy of citizens that cannot be transgressed,” he said, convinced that courts would hold the proposed law violative of the fundamental right to life guaranteed by the Constitution.

The security establishment, however, insists that people should be more worried about losing lives than just privacy.

“Terrorism and insurgency cannot be fought by privacy concerns… Interception is part of the process to secure national security through information warfare,” says M.K. Dhar, retired joint director at the Intelligence Bureau. Officials said when the enemy was invisible; this was the only way to locate them.

According to the proposal being finalised by the security establishment, intelligence agencies would be entitled to tap all mobile phones in the vicinity of the machine and screen them for any terror-related information.

“We have proposed that if it is a conversation that does not have any security implications, the recording would be erased and a log of the tapping retained,” a senior government official said.

Mobile Number Portability in India from 2010

1st News– The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) had announced on 20th November, 2009 that Mobile Number Portability (MNP) will be introduced in India- on December 31, 2009. TRAI  had said that the subscribers in India will be able to change their Service Providers while keeping the same mobile number, at a fee of not more than Rs 19! It would not matter if a chnage would be needed from GSM to CDMA or vice-versa, or within GSM and CDMA opetaors; one could retain the same number.

Sad thing was that initially, one would be able to switch operators and retain the number only within the same telecom circle. One could not retain the same number and change operators, say, move from Delhi to Mumbai.

The mobile users in India may now have to wait till April 2010 to be able to enjoy mobile number portability (MNP) services, a facility that allows users to change their operator while retaining the number.

MNP was earlier scheduled to be implemented from January 1, 2010, in metros and large circles, while the rest of the country was slated to have access to this from April. At a review meeting on Friday to evaluate MNP preparedness between operators, DoT and Trai officials agreed to extend the deadline for metros to April 2010.
