LIC needs an Insurance themselves

LIC stands for Life Insurance Corporation of India

I could have spent time writing my biography. Instead, I am typing this post out. I am a LIC policy holder for the past 3 years. It so happened that the agent who had registered me, Anwar- DO-1, 9810609743, some 3 years back; didn’t pay the commission that was supposed to come to me. Nevermind.

I had approached him several times to update my address. He had kept insisting that the amount that comes as an interest after few years, would automatically go to my Bank Account. All he would talk about is I should settle down- asap. The last time I had talked to him some 2 years back and shut him off for good, he was more keen on showing me the pictures of prospective grooms. Since he was introduced through a common link, I couldn’t scream on him. Not that any was left of that.

Well, as it was ordained to happen; the cheque had gone back from my earlier residential address. Not a big deal- is it? He could always collect it and leave that at that common link’s place or me to re-collect.

Here’s the big deal.

I had tried to register with the LIC website today. The site takes practically ages to open up.

I wanted to change my address. Note how “Change Address” is above the Profile Information!!

Note how the "address change" box is above "update profile"

Clicking on “Address Change”, gives me a huge message saying this:

Address Change allows you to change the addresses of your policies. No detail is being seen because,

1) you might not have enrolled any policies.

2) the enrolled policies are yet to be VALIDATED or there is mismatch in Policy Date of Birth with Profile Date of Birth.

If you have not submitted the enrollment form to a branch office for verification, please do so.

  • REALLY..??

Don’t miss out on my Gender Information as uploaded on the website

My name, address and gender was already filled in. I am a woman. I had gladly started updating my profile. I had the option to over- ride my address there too..!!

No Single Names Please

There- again I am stuck up. The website doesn’t allow anyone to register with Single Name.. This is after I am a Policy Holder (as the jargon goes). If I am a Policy Holder with my Single Name itself; then how come, I am restricted to open up an account with the same name? For “who-ever’s” sake, I have submitted supporting documents reflecting my Single name.

User ID and Address have been "whitened". Note my Gender and an * at the Last Name field

LIC Offices are unreachable

I contacted all the numbers given on their website for Delhi. They either “don’t exist” or are “temporarily out of Service”.

Mumbai numbers are even better

  • 022-26766221.
  • After making you punch all your details and hold for 5 minutes on music..
  • Holding..
  • The IVR says that the information against my Policy Numbers isn’t available. Press 1 for any other a/c; 2 for no more account..
  • 2..
  • Thank You for calling (says the IVR and you are hung up)
  • @#$#^%#@#$$%

No help from anywhere

I call up Just Dial- 22222222; they give me a number of Zonal Office- 011-028844159. I call up the numbers provided. The man who answered the call was too hesitant to speak up. He was of no help; neither could he provide any other number.

I redial 8 times 2. 2 cell- numbers were provided-

  • 9210209904- No Response to Bell
  • 9811135393- Rajinder- Marketing Manager. He “suggested” that I call Just Dial and take Mumbai numbers. He didn’t have any. I had asked him if he knew how shameless he was- BLANK. I disconnected on him.

I have failed to talk to the LIC officers whereby they guarantee Insurances.. Just who would insure them against their malfunctions?

Anyone listening..?

“OLIVIA” on Facebook

In my previous post, I had ended with a note, that Ill soon post an update; here’s one that I had squeezed into that update:

An Update- 5th May, 2010: I have not received any reply since then even on the email that was sent on 29/04/2010. Well, I would have been damned if they had responded to.

Wish Facebook a Very GOOD LUCK..

Ever since I had posted that write on my blog, I would see traffic on this post particularly for people trying to signup with their Single Names; could have been genuine, could have been otherwise too. I figured out I was not the only one trying to get this fixed.

A few days later I received this email; note, how they had figured out that I was going around with my name as READ OLIVIA in Facebook.

  • I had a Facebook Badge on my Blog account
  • My posts were also published in my Facebook Page- OLIVIA
  • There were auto- updates of my posts in my account (read: readolivia)

So, I assume it wasn’t an uphill task..

The email:

Hi Read,

It appears that you have forgotten to attach the required document to your reply. Please reply to this email and attach a scanned image of your government issued photo ID. Be sure to include all of our previous correspondence so that we can refer to your original inquiry. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Thanks for your cooperation,

User Operations

Even though I had wanted to maintain my claim of having sent all docs as was required to, I picked up my earlier mail that I had sent; that was being referred to here and re- forwarded checking the attachments a zillion times- this time round. The intent was to get the name corrected and not fight out about who was right and otherwise. I certainly held nothing against Facebook moreso, that it was because of this community that I could link up with my long lost friends.. I was happy; wanted to celebrate now.. If only my name was changed to my correct name- OLIVIA..

This morning, while I switched on my computer and logged on to my gmail account, a mail were sat reading this:

Hi Olivia,

We have made the changes that you requested. If you have any further questions, please visit our Help Center at the following address:

Thanks for contacting Facebook,

User Operations

My reply to them

Like a wondrous Thanks..

  • With Facebook, I realized a few lost friends and some still very close existing friends- they are all located in different places and countries.
  • It was important for me to maintain my profile with you but at times it hurt since it was in a different name..

Not anymore

This one’s a happy post; the first of the the series in my attempt to celebrate my new found state of being..

Thanks to everyone..

Facebook Limitations of Single Name

After having tried & failed to open an account with Facebook for sometime now, I have completely given up on it. Not that I am a SNS freak or maniac (no offence), but since my friends’ profiles sat on the Site; & with the reviews everywhere around, the curiosity got the better of me.

After having interacted with the Facebook Team on email, I received a mail from Zoe, User Operations Analyst, Facebook on 1st October, 2009 saying this:

Facebook does not allow people to sign up with certain names that may be fake or associated with fake accounts. While we realize this verification method may prevent some people with legitimate names from initially registering, we feel this policy is currently the best method to prevent against malicious and fake accounts on the site.
We can help you sign up for an account, but we will need additional information. Please reply to this email with a scanned image or digital picture of a government-issued photo ID (e.g., driver’s license) in order to confirm the accuracy of your name. Also, make sure you black out any personal information that is not needed to verify your identity (e.g., social security number). Keep in mind that we will permanently delete your ID from our servers once your name has been verified.
We apologize for the inconvenience, but you will be unable to sign up until you provide us with a scanned image of a government-issued ID. Please include all of our previous correspondence in your response so that we can refer to your original inquiry.

Thanks in advance for understanding this security policy,

I had sent the Xerox of my PAN Card & my Bank Photo Card on 7th December, 2009. I haven’t received any reply from them.  As was suggested, I had also included the Original Mail. Infact, I bought the scanner for the same purpose, alas!!

I tried yet one more time this year again to open up an account. It wont let me. Instead had to log a complain as earlier  & sent a mail on 30th March, 2010, in response to their Mail

Please reply to this email to verify that you are the owner of the account that you referenced in your Facebook support inquiry. This security step must be completed before Facebook can respond to your inquiry. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Please avoid creating an account with a different name while we are processing your request.

My Reply

I confirm, & notify that I have been trying to create one with for a very long time now.. last time u asked for my ID & I sent u my ATM photo card & PAN Card, but dint hear thereafter.

Is going by single name criminal that Facebook has outcasted me??

As I post this Blog here, I have sent them yet another mail attaching my

  • 1st set of conversation asking for Documents’ Xerox,
  • 2nd mail which has an attachment of my Documents
  • And also, the mail that was sent on 30th March, 2010.

Dear Facebook Team,

  • As was suggested by you, I have sent you my Documentation to prove that I go by Single Name. It seems that both My Single Name & Your Acceptance of the Same is Criminal & hence chosen to not even respond to it.
  • May I please understand that how any one with usage of 2 names as in 1st & 2nd/last Name would become a genuine or “not fake”?
  • How so “with changed times” is your Policy & Practice?
  • Would appreciate some reply this time.

Let me wait & see if I receive some reply this time, till I post the 2nd part of this Post.

Oh! And Facebook itself goes by Single Name- It ought to be “Face Book”

An Update- 5th May, 2010: I have not received any reply since then even on the email that was sent on 29/04/2010. Well, I would have been damned if they had responded to.
